2026 Kia EV9 vs Hyundai IONIQ 9

Both the Kia EV9 and Hyundai IONIQ 9 share an 800V electrical architecture, meaning ultra-fast DC charging is baked into both platforms.

The Kia EV9, however, pulls ahead with its available GT trim, a performance-oriented powerhouse producing 374 kW of combined output and 740 Nm of torque. That translates to a 0-100 kph time of approximately 4.5 seconds.

The IONIQ 9's most powerful AWD setup tops out at roughly 320 kW combined, which is still quick but leaves a noticeable gap.

The EV9 GT also features an electronic limited-slip differential (e-LSD), electronically controlled suspension, and a Terrain Mode Select system with Snow, Mud, and Sand settings, giving drivers real versatility when conditions get tricky.

Inside the Kia EV9's cabin, Kia delivers an integrated panoramic display pairing a 12.3" digital driver cluster, a 5" climate monitor, and a 12.3" touchscreen infotainment system.

The IONIQ 9 offers a similar 12.3" dual-screen layout, but the EV9 GT-Line and GT go further with an available Head-Up Display and Digital Side Mirrors. These camera-fed screens replace traditional mirrors for improved aerodynamics and better visibility in tight spaces.

The EV9 also includes Kia Connect telematics with over-the-air updates and satellite navigation bundled with 10 years of traffic information and map updates. Hyundai's Bluelink® system is competitive, but a full decade of included navigation data is a meaningful ownership perk.

Seating capacity runs at seven passengers for most trims of both vehicles, while the EV9 GT and the IONIQ 9 Limited and Calligraphy seat six with second-row captain's chairs.

The Kia EV9 GT takes the cabin experience further, though, by equipping those second-row chairs with relaxation and massage functions, an Alcantara suede interior with lime green stitching, and premium front-row relaxation seats with power leg rests.

The IONIQ 9's upper trims offer ventilated second-row captain's chairs, which is a nice inclusion, but massage functionality and relaxation leg rests remain absent.

Audio enthusiasts will also appreciate the EV9 GT-Line and GT's 14-speaker Meridian Premium Sound System, compared to the IONIQ 9's available Bose Premium setup.

Families and adventurers will appreciate the EV9's generous cargo layout. With all seven seats upright, the EV9 offers 333 liters of rear cargo space, expanding to 828 liters with the third row folded and up to 2,393 liters with only the front seats in use.

AWD models include an LED-illuminated front trunk (frunk) with 52 liters of storage, while the RWD model gets a roomier 90-liter frunk. Braked towing capacity for the AWD EV9 reaches 2,500 kg, making it a legitimate option for hauling trailers, boats, or gear.

The Hyundai IONIQ 9 lists 21.9 cubic feet behind the third row and 86.9 behind the front seats, and its U.S. towing specs remain TBD. The EV9 also includes standard Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability on every trim, letting you power appliances, tools, or devices directly through the vehicle.
